October polymer grade propylene rises 5% vs September in Mexico

17-Oct-11
October propylene polymer grade contract prices for the Mexican domestic market in October saw a marginal rise of 5% over September levels, as per Platts. Prices rose to US1755/mt FOB (Pesos 23,623/mt FOB), mainly due to the weakness of pesos vs the dollar. Propylene prices in the US have seen decreases in the same period. On the production side, Pemex's steam crackers were running at 90% last week, and are expected to run at regular rates (at least 95%) in the next days after the company resolved problems in the stabilization process. The three Pemex steam crackers went on an emergency shutdown three weeks ago after an incident with an ethane processor in Tabasco caused by flooding that shut down the crackers for one day.
