PKN Orlen commences construction of 600,000 ton PTA plant

PKN ORLEN has embarked upon construction of a 600,000 ton purified terephthalic acid plant (PTA) to be operational on its premises adjacent to ANWIL Wloclawek. The contract has been awarded to Polimex-Mostostal as the general constructor of the plant. The PTA plant is scheduled to commence production in H2 2010 at an estimated cost PLN 3.73 bln. The PTA process is licensed by Mitsubishi Chemical, the world's third biggest and Asia's leading producer. Annual average demand for PTA is forecast to grow by 6% pa in Western Europe between 2003 and 2010 due to increasing application in the plastics, textile, packaging, food and pharmaceuticals industry.
