Polymer exports from Thailand hampered by port congestion, production issues

21-Nov-11
Polymer exports from Thailand have been hampered by congestion of Main port at Bangkok as a result of the recent floods that hit the country, as well as production issues, as per Platts. Bangkok's main port has been shut after the devastating floods that hit the country in October. Additionally, Thai ports were also congested as inbound ships have been unable to discharge cargoes due to damage to infrastructure and factory closures. PTT Chemicals had production issues at its 300,000 tpa high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant in Map Ta Phut, shut October 8 due to an unspecified technical glitch. The plant has been restarted in late October, but continues to experience some technical issues.
