South Korea's number one refiner SK Energy Co. has signed a preliminary deal with a Chinese state-run coal producer to cooperate in the coal-based chemical business. Under the deal with Zaozhuang Coal Mining Group Co., SK Energy will assess the economic feasibility of the projects to cooperate in the coal chemical business. The coal chemical industry is a sector using coal as the raw material for electricity generation and chemical production such as ethanol and olefins, by converting coal from a solid to a gaseous form via catalysis.
