Safety checks to delay start up of Exxon Mobil’s 1 mln tpa ethylene cracker on Jurong Island to 2012

21-Jun-11
Exxon Mobil Corp will delay the start-up of its 1 mln tpa ethylene cracker on Jurong Island in Singapore to 2012, instead of the end of 2011 due to longer-than-expected safety checks, as per Reuters. Since the new unit is being started up in existing facilities, extreme care and caution needs to be exercised. The cracker will be the last of the projects to be started up. This will take place sometime in 2012. The cracker is part of a host of projects which include two new polyethylene units which have a combined capacity of 1.2 mln tpa and a 300,000 tpa specialty elastomers unit.
