Sharq expects to achieve mechanical completion of ethylene-derivative plants at Al Jubail

Eastern Petrochemical Company (Sharq) expects to achieve mechanical completion of its ethylene-derivative plants at Al Jubail by the end 2009. However, the SABIC subsidiary will not commence commercial operation. Sharq is a 50:50 JV between SABIC and a consortium of Japanese companies led by Mitsubishi Corporation. The third expansion work at AL Jubail comprises 1.3 mln tpa ethylene cracker, using naphtha or ethane as feedstock, 700,000 tpa MEG plant, 400,000 tpa HDPE plant and a 400,000 tpa LDPE plant.
