An explosion caused by a burst pipeline carrying chemicals has killed as well as injured many in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, Eastern China. Authorities are still trying to determine the total number of casualties from the blast. A pipeline carrying ethylene blew up on the grounds of an abandoned plastics factory. A statement from the State Administration of Work Safety said the explosion came when a motorist started a car engine and ignited leaking gas.
