The thin-film/printable battery sector in 2010 looks far different than what industry participants, investors and observers predicted as recently as three-to-four years ago. Suppliers of these batteries are now beginning to ship in volume and are no longer trying to compete with button/cell batteries on price. Instead, they are making their business cases based on thinness, flexibility, eco-friendliness and safety factors.
In 2015, NanoMarkets projects that products utilizing thin-film/printable batteries will have a total market value of US$12.2 billion.
