Viskase's relocation of its plant from western Indiana to Mexico is likely to put more than 250 workers out of job in the town of Kentland, about 60 miles south of Gary.
Viskase, the plastic maker has decided to close its Illinois-based company to lower costs and optimize operations. The decision for the relocation was made in April.
Most of the workers of the company operated machinery to make plastic packages for hot dogs, bologna, sausage and other meats. They were notified of the closure earlier in the month.
Workers are likely to be offered incentives to stay on until the plant closes. There is also a possibility that a part of the work force will move to Mexico with the plant.
