Falling polymer prices to be lower next month?

27-May-05
High producer stocks and falling feedstock costs have pushed commodity polymer prices lower this month. Producers are responding by cutting back production and bringing forward plant maintenance programs. Processors have been buying 'hand to mouth' this month in anticipation of even lower prices. As stocks with processors fall, will polymer prices see a recovery in demand? Polystyrene prices tumbled by 9% as the 'benzene bubble' finally burst. Polyethylene prices experienced the sharpest price drop, when few grades tumbled by almost 5% compared to last month. PVC prices were lower by 4%, while polypropylene fell by nearly 3%.
