Affected by record high oil prices, Mitsui plans an ethylene output cut

15-Jul-08
Affected by record high oil prices, another petrochem major in Japan has announced output cuts. With effect from August 1, Mitsui Chemicals plans to reduce operating rate at one of its two ethylene-producing naphtha crackers by 10. Mitsui will cut operating rates at the naphtha cracker in Ichihara, with a capacity to produce 612,000 tpa of ethylene. This cut has been announced as the company’s export margins have been negatively affected due to rising energy prices.
