Americas Styrenics LLC, an equally owned joint venture between Dow Chemical Company and Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP, will curtail polystyrene production capacity at its Marietta, Ohio, facility by approximately 350 mln pounds to counter the demand downturn. The decision will affect roughly 60 jobs.
The Ohio-based plant has 10 lines to produce polystyrene using Chevron Phillips Chemical's proprietary low-volatility, high-heat crystal polystyrene technology. A research and technology center supporting the polystyrene product line is located adjacent to the production facility and also houses a pilot plant, a technical laboratory and fabrication area. Despite the changes, the Marietta facility will continue to be Americas Styrenics' largest polystyrene plant, and one of the largest in North America.
