Arkema’s 400 ton is to embark on pilot production at its carbon nano plant in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region in France. Start up is estimated in 2011 and this will be the first operation of its kind to make CNTs using a carbon vapour deposition process, entirely using a bio-sourced raw material – in this case ethylene derived from corn.
The CNTs can then be used to reinforce a variety of products across major sectors such as airspace, auto and green energy.
