Ethylene production in August 2011 rose by 1.9% year on year and 8.2% month on month, in Japan to 612,400 tons. This is the first increase in two months as reported by the Japan Petrochemical Industry Association. Though estimated average operating rate at production facilities fell 1.9 percentage points to 90.2%, output continued to increase. This could be because the plants that were shut on account of regular maintenance this year were smaller in size than the plants that underwent maintenance in 2010.
