Axens's technologies and catalysts have been selected for CPC and KH Neochem (KHNC) joint venture Taiwan-Japan Oxo Chemical Industries' (TJOC) isononyl alcohol (INA) production plant in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. As part of a joint-venture agreement signed among CPC, KHNC and Mega International Commercial Bank (MICB) for production of high value-added petrochemical products, the INA plant will be built and is scheduled to become operational by 2019.
TJOCI expects to invest US$414 mln in construction of the new plant, which will have an initial annual capacity to produce high value-added petrochemical products set at 180,000 tons of INA. INA is mainly used to make diisononyl phthalate (DINP), a plasticiser, used in production of automotive parts, electric wires, cables and conducting materials. Claimed to be the largest single investment made by Japanese and Taiwanese companies in the petrochemical area in Taiwan, the project will use several Axens's technologies such as MTBE and Dimersol-XTM technologies to alloe octenes production used for synthesis of the INA via hydroformylation.
Axens process licensing senior executive vice-president Christian Dupraz said: "Axens's ability to propose a complete and well-proven solution for octenes production has been critical in this project. "This will continue to strengthen our relationship with both CPC and KH Neochem. We think that the business of production of phthalates with longer carbon chain such as DINP will continue to grow in the near future and Axens's technologies in this field are a very good fit."
