17-Feb-05
As an important step to enable maintain its leadership position in the polypropylene (PP) industry, Basell is committed to continuously reviewing and rejuvenating its asset base. It is not possible for low volume manufacturing plants to compete in the long term in the Asia Pacific region. With this in view, Basell plans to increase its polypropylene production capacity in Australia by 60,000 tpa with an expansion project at its Geelong plant. The Geelong site has been progressively modernised over the last three years. With the latest planned increase, scheduled to be completed in Q1-2006, Geelong's plant capacity will be at 130,000 tpa. Basell and its predecessor companies have been manufacturing polypropylene in Australia for more than three decades.
