The takeover of Basell Polyolefins by the Purnendu Chatterjee led consortium is beginning to have an impact on the company's Indian operations. Basell currently employs a manpower of around 10 for its marketing and technical operations in India, headed by M S Dodi, a former Nocil and Reliance man who joined Basell two years ago. Polypropylene and polyethylene, particularly in Western India, have been the thrust area of the company's sales in India. Currently, Basell sells around 2,500 tons of polypropylene and 1,200-1,500 tons of polyethylene in the country.
Now the company is probably hiring technical people for future expansion of Indian operation in other regions too. Basell has started hiring technical manpower in India and is looking to increase its strength in India by almost 50% in the next 2-3 months.
