BASF AG plans to sell its polystyrene (PS) business in the United States and Canada to British-based chemical company INEOS, for an undisclosed amount. The sale, to INEOS' North American subsidiary, INEOS Americas, LLC, included its production plant in Joliet, Ill which it bought from Mobil Chemical in 1992, and transfer of about 140 employees
The sale of this business is another major step in our process of realigning the global styrenics business to ensure long-term profitable growth. BASF, however, remains committed to its remaining styrenics portfolio in North America
