US$956 million Aromatics complex planned in Oman

Oman Oil Company S.A.O.C. (OOC) plans to construct a US$956 million grass-root Aromatics Complex at Sohar Industrial Port Area. Capacities at the complex will include a 800,000 tpa paraxylene plant and 210,000 tpa benzene plant. Naphtha for the project will be procured from the Sohar Refinery Company. Oman Refinery Company (ORC) has been offered a 20% equity stake in the project. ORC is the owner of all hydrocarbons and utilities produced at SRC. The Front End Engineering Design (FEED) contract has been awarded to Jacobs Consultancy. The Basic Engineering Contract awarded to Axens is scheduled to be completed by the end of September 2005. This project is an extension of the Government's long-term strategy for the expansion of the petrochemical sector.
