BASF to persist with plans for MDI plant in Chongqing

Awaiting results of a deliberation by the local authorities considering the impact on indigenous production by its new plant, BASF plans to persist with plans for a MDI (methylene diphenyl diisocyanate) plant in Chongqing, China. The Chongqing authorities are still reviewing how the plant will affect the market fundamentals in the region. The company’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) application is also under review by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC. The petrochem major is upbeat of receiving approval from authorities for the construction of the plant to proceed. Despite being unsure of the time lag involved in the approval process , the company continues with the preparatory work.
