BAYER MaterialScience AG has concluded an agreement with Spanish manufacturer Ertisa S.A. (a subsidiary of the CEPSA Group), for the supply of phenol and acetone in the Europe and Asia regions. Phenol and acetone are used to produce bisphenol A, a base product for the high-tech plastic Makrolon®. Ertisa S.A., one of the largest phenol and acetone manufacturers in Europe, produces 600,000 tpa of phenol at its site in Huelva, Spain. From here it is delivered to tanks and plants located on the site of Bayer Antwerpen Comm. V, Belgium for supply to north European customers. In the future, the raw materials will delivered via a pipeline and by rail from the Antwerp site to Bayer MaterialScience's bisphenol A processing facilities in Europe. The facilities in Map Ta Phut, Thailand, and Shanghai, China, will be supplied by sea.
