Borealis has invested 200 million euros at Schwechat in Austria, increasing production by over 30% to a million tons, making it the largest plastics site in Europe. Borealis looks set to continue production in Austria for many years. The plant is located adjacent to the OMV refinery. Recently, OMV has increased its share in Borealis to 35% and IPIC, which also holds shares in OMV, took over the majority.
Austria could play an increasingly important role in the company's future, fanning speculations that the company headquarters could move to Vienna.
