The board of directors at Celanese (Dallas, TX) has officially approved relocation of engineering polymer producing subsidiary Ticona from its present location in Kelsterbach, Germany southwest of Frankfurt to the Hüchst Industrial Park. The existing location would have hampered construction of a runway expansion at Frankfurt's Rhine-Main Airport (Fraport) as the Ticona plant would have effectively been at the end of the runway. Fraport has agreed to pay Ticona compensation of €670 mln.
Despite being offered cheap land, tax breaks, and other benefits, the company will build a new facility for the acetal operations at the site of the former Hüchst chemicals plant, across the Main River. This decision has been guided by the fact that the company's already-trained staff will not be forced to move, along with esae in facilitation of raw material and energy supply, costs, infrastructure, delivery routes, employee satisfaction and security.
