Chevron Phillips lifts force majeure on Port Arthur propylene sales

02-Dec-14
Chevron Phillips Chemical has lifted the force majeure on propylene sales from its Port Arthur, Texas, chemical complex, market sources said in Platts. The sources, including buyers, cited written notification received from Chevron Phillips Chemical earlier in the day. A company source confirmed the decision to lift the force majeure but declined further comment. The sales allocation had been in effect since July 10 and resulted from a flash fire that led to a prolonged shutdown of the site's steam cracker. Chevron Phillips Chemical began start-up processes on the steam cracker in early November and is expected to reach full operational capacity by year's end, a source with knowledge of company operations said. The Port Arthur site has propylene and ethylene production capacity of 499,000 m tpa and 830,000 m tpa, respectively.
