The Dow Chemical Company plans to construct its second LG Dow Polycarbonate plant in South Korea. LG Dow Polycarbonate is to commence construction work on its second polycarbonate (PC) train on a 65,000 tpa line in Yeochun by end-2005. The basic engineering work for the second PC train is already completed for the 50:50 joint venture between US major Dow Chemical and LG Chem, South Korea's largest petrochemical company.
The Yeochun project could come on stream in less than two years after the start of construction as the infrastructure is already in place. The new line would double the company's PC capacity to 130,000 tpa to be supplied mainly to South Korea and other Asian markets.
Its first plant in Yeosu, Korea will take a scheduled maintenance turnaround, for approximately two weeks during late October to early November 2005, in conjunction with a planned shutdown at neighboring Hanwha Petrochemical, the chlorine supplier to LG Dow.
