Chandigarh-based NGO, International Society for Cooperation and Development (ISCD) has invited a team of scientists from South Korea that has developed the technology of manufacturing eco-friendly poly-bags from corn to produce them in India. Made from PLAs (polylactides), these bags look and feel just like regular plastics and polyethlyene but they are 100% biodegradable and compostable, and can be used for making cups, cutlery, food containers, trash bags and carry bags.
They plan to seek government approval in few days and after getting clearance, start their commercial business in next 6 months. Initially the raw material will be imported from South Korea, but at a leter stage, a raw material manufacturing unit will be set up in India.
