Engineering plastics consumption to surpass 18 mln tons by 2010

Asia-Pacific, Europe and United Sates of America are the major markets for Engineered Plastics as per a report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc. With an estimated consumption of 6.55 mln metric tons in 2007, Asia-Pacific represents the largest market. The region is also poised to post the fastest annual growth rate of 10.7% in terms of volume sales over the years 2001 through 2010. Impressive demand in the Chinese and Indian markets is expected to aid this robust growth. Sales of engineered plastics in Europe totaled an estimated 3 mln metric tons in 2006 and are projected to grow at a CAGR of 4.66% over the years 2001 through 2010. Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS), polycarbonate, and nylon are the leading segments of engineered plastics in 2007, constituting more than three-fourths of total market.
