According to the company's press release, EQUATE Petrochemical Company took control of the first process unit of Olefins II Kuwait Program (OL2K), having a capacity of the 600000 tpa of ethylene glycol (EG). When initiated, EQUATE's total EG production unit will reach 1.15 mln MTA. The contractors, Fluor Corporation as program management contractor (PMC), Foster?Wheeler as construction manager, and Kharafi National for construction, have completed the project on schedule and under budget. Commissioning activities for EG?2 have begun and the unit is expected to be on?line during July 2008.
EQUATE's sole EG distributor, MEGlobal will look to direct the sales of production throughout the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas, in addition to marketing of their current EG volume.
Signing of the Notice of Mechanical Completion Acceptance of the Ethylene Glycol 2 (EG2) production plant was commemorated by EQUATE Management Team (EMT), the OL2K Program and the unit project team. The construction of the EG2 production unit kicked off in July 2006 and the milestone was achieved with over 6 mln safe-working hours without any loss time incidents.
