Equistar Chemicals, LP, announced that it will be reducing its workforce by approximately 75 people at the PD Glycol plant in Beaumont, Texas, following completion of initial phases of post-hurricane remediation at the site. The plant, a joint venture between Equistar and DuPont, has been out of service since Hurricane Ike in September 2008. Employees have been engaged in remediation and mitigation of equipment at the site to prevent further deterioration of the plant. No decision has been made on the future status of the plant. The company will retain a core team of employees to continue with the next phase of remediation activity.
Equistar is an indirect subsidiary of LyondellBasell Industries AF S.C.A. and operates the joint venture plant. Equistar continues to produce glycols at its Pasadena, Texas, ethylene glycol facility. Glycols are used to manufacture various consumer products, including polyester fibers and cord, polyester film, plastic bottles, synthetic rubber, resins, anti-icing compounds, antifreeze, hydraulic fluid, printing ink, fuel additives and solvents.
