Since Nov 2002, the European Commission levied anti-dumping tariffs, ranging from 2.82 euros (US$3.3) to 148 euros per ton, on PET chips exported by the South Korean producers, along with products by two other South Korean and three Taiwanese manufacturers. The three South Korean producers were cleared of their charges in November 2004, following the commission's mid-term review of the case.
The European producers claim the South Korean exporters and three other Taiwanese manufacturers continue to violate anti-dumping regulations despite a recent ruling by the commission clearing them of previous charges, and hence have requested for a review. The European Union plans to review 3 South Korean producers of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) chips to decide whether to resume levying anti-dumping tariffs on their products.
