Lightweight, 'Panel-Free' Technology for PET Hot-Fill bottles

06-Dec-05
Graham Packaging Company and Hokkai Can Company, Ltd., a Japanese bottle manufacturer and beverage co-packer, have signed a license agreement that gives Hokkai Can the rights to use Graham Packaging's proprietary Active Transverse Panel (ATP) technology for making and filling panel-free, hot-fill, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles. Production is estimated to commence by the middle of 2006. The ATP technology offers dramatic light-weighting and design freedom for PET hot-fill containers because it eliminates the need for vacuum-uptake panels and allows a lightweight container to be made in any shape and mimic the appearance of glass. Graham Packaging has demonstrated weight reductions of up to 10 grams in unique panel-less shapes when compared to its standard hot-fill bottles.
