Japan's Chisso Corporation is targeting Europe as the next location for its Funcster long glass fibre reinforced polypropylene. The European manufacturing unit will follow the US unit"within two years. This start up follows the new US plant, scheduled to start up in January 2006. The US company will be operating as Comusa targeting applications such as automotive front-end modules.
Chisso's new US facility has a capacity of about 10,000 tpa and is located at Covington, Georgia in a position of an existing Fibervisions (Hercules) plant. It has demonstrated its superiority through its materials and compounding technology with respect to properties and processability, whereas Funcster has demonstrated its superiority in rigorous trials at automotive OEMs and Tier Ones in the US and Japan.
