Fluor Corporation has been selected to provide front-end engineering, design and project management consultancy services to the US$3.5 billion petrochemical complex underway n Saudi Arabia. Fluor has been awarded the contract by Project Management & Development Company, Ltd. (PMD) of Saudi Arabia for complex located at Al Jubail.
Once the complex is completed it will include:
· A 1.35 million tpa ethane/butane cracker
· A 950,000 tpa polyethylene plant
· A 600,000 tpa polypropylene plant
· A 530,000 tpa ethylene oxide unit
· A 300,000 tpa Bisphenol-a plant including phenol and cumene units.
Additional derivative facilities for methylamines, ethanolamine, ethoxylates, butane-1, and benzene extraction will also be installed.
Although the work on the project is underway in the office at Fluor's Camberley, UK, the contract value is not yet disclosed. However, agreements with Saudi Aramco for the supply of both, ethane and butane feedstocks are complete. Permission from the Royal Commission for the commercial use of land and water has also been received. The site work that will start later this year is scheduled to be complete by 2008.
