Linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) is extensively used in applications, such as food packaging, non-food packaging, closures, heavy-duty sacks, agriculture, and industrial films. It has higher tensile strength and superior impact and puncture resistance, which are ideally suited for packaging applications, such as heavy-duty snacks, food packaging, medical packaging, and other non-packaging applications, like jacketing in wire and cables and synthetic grass. The Asia Pacific region is expected to be the largest region in the global linear low density polyethylene industry by 2017, as per a report by Lucintel.
Continuous increase in demand for LLDPE-based products in end-user markets, such as, packaging, construction, wire and cable, sheets, and healthcare, is expected to drive the market in the future. Replacement of the low density polyethylene market by linear low density polyethylene, due to its low cost and high mechanical quality, is one of the major factors to drive the industry growth. The global linear low density polyethylene industry is expected to reach an estimated value of US$41.1 bln by 2017. Lyondell Basell, The Dow Chemical Company, Exxon Mobil Corporation, China Petroleum and Chemical Corp., SABIC, and Braskem SA are some of the suppliers of linear low density polyethylene for various applications.
