The largest application market for nanocomposites in 2009 were plastics and packaging (US$49.5 mln), aerospace and aviation (US$45.4 mln, including military) and automotive (US$28.35 mln). By 2017 annual global revenues are projected to be approximately US$1040.5 mln. The market for clay nanocomposites will continue to grow in the packaging sector. Packaging will remain the largest market for polymer nanocomposites (US$253 mln), followed by aerospace and aviation (US$163.5 mln), automotive (US$110 mln), energy (US$101 mln, representing the largest growth area) and electronics and semiconductors (US$89 mln).
