Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) became the best petrochemical complex in the world with winning the Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) from the UK – the highest award in this category—and the Robert W Campbell award from the USA, said the General Manager of the organization. GPIC remains the first and the only company outside Europe and North America to win these prestigious accolades.
Al Jawahery added, "GPIC is the only petrochem plant in the world to receive the Nobel and the Oscars of the safety. This is not a chance happening, but it shows that the shareholders, the Board of Directors, executive management, labour union, employees and the contractors are working in a harmonious blend to reach a standard setting level."
In addition to these, he added, Brigadier Ala'a Siadi, the head of Bahrain coast guard also commended the organization for the request from the US Coast Guard who requested for the procedures GPIC adopted at its ports --including the urea port -- for them to use as a model.
The general manager said that the US coast guard requested for the procedures after auditing the ports and facilities of the industry as part of their security requirement.
