Backed by Citu, leaders of Haldia Petrochemicals Limited Employees' Union are planning to build up their movement regarding permanent employment to 183 casual workers after the declaration of the panchayat poll results. HPL authorities have given a verbal assurance that they would absorb the 183 casual workers as permanent staff soon.
Amidst threats of a labour strike at Haldia Petrochemicals Limited, the HPL Employees' Union's demand has so far been stayed at negotiation stage, as HPL seeks more time to disclose their plans. A committee, where four members from the Union have been included, has been appointed to negotiate the necessary adjustment between the HPL management and the employees' union.
Apart from this, the Union has placed two more demands to the HPL management: First, another 550 unskilled casual labourers, who gave land to the HPL should be absorbed permanently. If required, they can be made to undergo a brief training-course to hone their skills. Secondly, on 2 April - the birthday of HPL, all casual labourers attached to the HPL should be invited for the celebrations by the authorities.
