Honda invests in state of the art units in Thailand

18-Jul-05
Thailand has now emerged as the production hub for Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co 's completely knocked-down units. Honda is to invest 542 million baht on installing two state-of-the-art facilities to upgrade the technology of its 120,000 vehicle per year assembly plant, which increases product quality as well as the efficiency and speed of manufacture. Most of the output is targeted towards export markets and will help make the Thai plant globally more competitive. About 248 million baht is marked out for a high-speed plastic moulding plant to produce front and rear bumper units for the Jazz, City and Accord models. This makes Thailand the fourth country to install such equipment after Japan, China and the United Kingdom. Output from the new plastic moulding line (380,000 units per year) will go to Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, India, Pakistan and Turkey. 294 million baht is set aside for installing spin-casting machines for the production of engine cylinder sleeves- the first time that centrifugal spin-casting machines are being deployed in Asia, outside of Japan. The plant will produce a higher-quality product that is thinner and lighter, thus reducing engine weight and fuel consumption. The spin-casting machines enable their production to extremely high-quality standards - with the production capacity of this plant pegged at over half a million units a year. Almost 85% of production will be for export to China, Indonesia and Britain.
