Idemitsu is investigating plans to combine a 220,000 bpd refinery in Chiba near Tokyo with Mitsui Chemicals Inc’s 553,000 tpa of ethylene plant. Idemitsu provides feedstock naphtha to Mitsui’s petrochemical plant. The two may consider an alliance at Idemitsu’s 120,000 Tokuyama refinery in western Japan, where Mitsui has a nearby petrochemical plant.
