A new toughened polyamide 6.6 compound for injection molding provides good flow properties for intricate or multi-cavity parts, along with flexural strength and low-temperature impact resistance for demanding automotive applications, has been introduced by Teknor Apex Company. The flexural and impact strength of Chemlon® 104 polyamide enables components such as automotive fuel line fasteners to withstand the stresses of assembly and end use and endure exposure to cold, according to Peter Verhooren, transportation market manager for the Engineering Thermoplastics Division of Teknor Apex. Property information appears in the accompanying table. “When un-reinforced polyamide 6.6 provides insufficient flexibility or toughness for an application, Chemlon 104 compound can often fill in the gap,” said Mr. Verhooren. “This is a new alternative for automotive manufacturers and is available at a price that is very competitive with toughened polyamides already on the market.”
Teknor Apex can supply identical formulations of Chemlon 104 compound worldwide from production facilities in Europe, the U.S., and Singapore. The material is available in natural, black, or any color specified by the customer.
