Indorama Polymers to invest US$160.6 mln in AlphaPet Inc. plant in USA

27-Aug-07
Thailand-based Indorama Polymers Group has announced an estimated US$160.6 mln as initial investment in AlphaPet Inc. plant in USA. Construction is expected to begin in October this year, scheduled for completion in September 2009. The plant, with a capacity to produce 432,000 tpa, will be the largest producer of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in North America and the first such plant in Alabama state. Currently, North America is a net importer of bottle-grade PET resin. AlphaPet is a new subsidiary of Indorama Polymers, headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand. The unit will be adjacent to and will receive its purified terephthalic acid, or PTA, from BP's integrated Decatur paraxylene/PTA facility on the Tennessee River.
