Oman Petrochemical Industries Company faces delay in completion

23-Aug-07
The mega petrochemicals and plastics project at Sohar, Oman seems to be delayed. The project, to comprise a 1 mln tpa ethylene cracker, three world-scale PE and two PP plants was estimated to start up in 2008-2009, as per original plans. The project, planned by Oman Petrochemical Industries Company (OPIC), is a partnership between Dow (50%), Oman's state-owned oil company OOC and the government of Oman (25% each). OPIC is reported to have informed contractors (French engineering group Technip, handling the chemical process technology) that the project will not go ahead as planned.
