An innovative plastic breakable ampoule technology that will replace conventional glass-based ampoules that are opened by snapping away the neck has been designed and patented by French plastic converter Seriplast. Made from a special polypropylene (PP) grade, it features a round molded-in notch in the neck between the tip and the shoulders on which a selectively applied beta irradiation process has been used to embrittle the PP material. As a result, the ampoule neck can be broken, eliminating the risk of injuries with sharp glass splinters. Typical applications include medical, cosmetic and personal care products.
