JG Summit naphtha plant awaits final bids from 3 overseas contractors

JG Summit Petrochemical Corporation, 80% owned by publicly traded JGSH (JG Summit Holding) and 20% owned by Marubeni Corp. of Japan, is Philippines' largest manufacturer of polyethylene and polypropylene. Annual capacity is 175,000 tons for polyethylene and 180,000 tons for polypropylene. Adjacent to the existing sites, JG Summit Petrochemical Corporation is scheduled to put up a 350,000 metric tpa naphtha cracker plant in Batangas. Three foreign contractors interested in the project are expected to submit their bids by the end of this month to JG Summit. The plant is scheduled to commence operations in 2008.
