PSA Peugeot Citroën Group, a world-class European automobile manufacturer has specified ExxonMobil Chemical's Exxtral™ performance polyolefins for four interior components of its new Citroën Berlingo and Peugeot Partner. Exxtral™ performance polyolefins are specified for manufacturing the instrument panel, door panel, and upper and lower trim of the two models.
The specification of Exxtral BMU141 polyolefin in instrument panels will mark the first time for any OEM to use them for that purpose. Exxtral polyolefin was selected for instrument panels because it offers a unique balance of impact strength and stiffness and is easy to mold. For door panel, upper and lower trim Exxtral performance polyolefins offer a weight reduction and design flexibility, thereby replacing difficult to recycle material combinations of more costly engineered thermoplastics. Exxtral performance polyolefins are becoming increasingly popular with automotive designers and processors due to reductions in weight without compromising strength, excellent surface appearance, paintability or the ability to mold-in color.
