Lucite to discontinue manufacturing methacrylic acid at West Virginia facility

31-Mar-09
Lucite International, Inc., world's leading supplier of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and part of the Lucite International group of companies, announced to cease manufacturing Methacrylic Acid (MAA) at its facility in Belle, West Virginia, at the end of the first quarter of 2010 due to non-viability of business in the present tight economic market. "In these economic times the operating costs are prohibitive to the point that Lucite International can no longer justify continuing to manufacture MAA at Belle profitably," said Robert Connolly, Business Director - Monomers of Lucite International, Inc. However, the decision will have no impact on company's Higher Monomers operations at the Belle facility. In November 2008, Mitsubishi Rayon announced its intention to acquire the Lucite International Group. The companies continue to work together in taking the necessary steps to expedite completion of the deal. The company is the only organization with production, R&D, sales and marketing facilities in all three major geo-economic regions; the Americas, Europe and Asia.
