Oil company Lukoil has commissioned the first phase of a gas processing unit at its Stavrolen petrochemical complex in Budennovsk, Russia. The plant has the capacity to produce 2.2 billion cubic meters (bcm) of raw gas per year. This facility will enable Lukoil to utilise associated petroleum gas produced from the fields in the Northern Caspian, supply gas to new power generation facilities of the Lukoil Group in the Stavropol region and begin production of petrochemicals. Lukoil expects to process a portion of the associated petroleum gas to produce polyethylene.
"I am sure that each of them will have a significant impact not only on the economic development of the Company but also on the respective regions where they are located."
The production of polyethylene is expected to stimulate the development of small and mid-sized plastics processing businesses in the region. PJSC Lukoil president Vagit Alekperov said: "The startup of the first phase of the gas processing unit at Stavrolen plant is one of a wide range of projects which Lukoil plans to put in operation in 2016. "I am sure that each of them will have a significant impact not only on the economic development of the Company but also on the respective regions where they are located."
