After a shutdown due to a compressor fault, LyondellBasell Industries has started a cracker at Wesseling in Germany. The start up is expected to cause flaring at Wesseling, LB’s largest chemicals facility in Europe. Flaring is a safety measure that prevents excessive pressure from building up when the normal process is disrupted. The complex at Wesseling has two crackers with a total capacity to produce 1.04 mln tpa of ethylene.
