New state-of-the-art Film Application Development Center unveiled by Dow

25-Jun-09
The Dow Chemical Company unveiled the new Dow Film Application Development Center featuring a Hosokawa Alpine American 7-layer coextrusion blown film line in Freeport, Texas to encourage continued innovation in packaging material product development. The company notes that the new coextrusion blown film line will lead to advancement in plastic packaging material and development. The multi-million dollar investment will allow Dow and its customers to formulate structures for new or improved products through custom trials, testing and analysis. The 7-layer line is a full-scale, high performance, commercial quality film extrusion line designed to test the performance of resins that may be under consideration for purchase, as well as develop new and improved film structures for packaging applications and more. The Center features include three multi- and two mono-layer blown film lines, two cast film lines, one extrusion coating line and a variety of associated fabricating and testing equipment. Polymer characterization laboratories, a sensory science laboratory featuring taste, odor and haptics testing capabilities, and pilot plants are also on site. Facilities within the Center can also offer testing and analysis of resin and film properties such as optical clarity, stiffness, sealability, heat resistance and the like.
