Strong demand for ethylene from end-users has prompted Japan's Nippon Oil Corp to mull a minor capacity increase at its 404,000 tpa naphtha cracker in Kawasaki. If the company makes a formal decision to make the small hike in capacity, construction will occur during the cracker's planned maintenance, scheduled for August-September 2012. The company's sole naphtha cracker can also process up to around 40% of alternative feedstock to naphtha, such as middle distillates and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
